Friday April 30 2010 - Weirs Beach, New Hampshire

A slow day today. I had to wrap up grading final papers for the Ethics course and the Logic course that I've been teaching. That took until early afternoon. Afterwards, we headed out for a short hike a few miles from our place. It took us to a small pond, which the kids were thrilled with. They're developing a taste for hikes, which is exciting to Gena and I. Caedmon began to complain probably about the last tenth of a mile of the .6 mile hike. He had slipped on the slippery fall leaf cover and banged his knee, which put a dent in his normally happy attitude.

Not much else happened today. Sunday - and our departure - is coming quick. With it we turn westward. And while we're a long way and a long time from Arizona, it's still the downhill side of the trip. For so long we have been focused on how to spend a month on the East coast. And here we are, after a month on the East coast. Sorta. It didn't look like we thought it would six weeks ago, but it's been fantastic. The two weeks we've had as a family in stable chunks has been precious and much needed.

We'll have three long days on the road starting Sunday, which will lead us back to St. Louis for a week-long rest and rearrangement. Then we head north. At least that's the plan. And we all know how well plans work out sometimes, don't we? We are keenly aware (and in my case, guiltily aware of) how blessed we've been to be able to do this. It's been an amazing, dream-like experience. It's sad to see this portion of it go, even as we're looking forward to what the next stage will bring. We would love to know where we're going to end up putting down roots next...and when. But so far, that information has not been forthcoming. So we continue to pray, and to trust the best we can, and to enjoy each moment that God gives us, whether traversing the country or not.
