Saturday was a more diligent catch-up day. First and foremost was the need to do laundry. I had to do some work on the online college courses I'm teaching. The kids needed another formal school day lesson. Postcards needed to be written. Plans needed to be discussed for how we would approach New York City on Monday. Dinner had to be made. We ate breakfast in thanks to sleeping a little later than usual, and needing to use up some of the eggs we had bought for the week.
All of these things happened. I also broke down and got some new shoes at the Bass outlet shop at Arundel Mills Mall. Bass is my favorite brand of shoe, and they were having an unbelievable sale. As much as I hate to spend money on clothing items for me, I couldn't pass it up.
We decided that Sunday ought to be dedicated to driving up to see Gettysburg and visiting one last time with Gena's grandmother & aunt & uncle before we left the area. I wish there was more riveting stuff to report, but there's not. So here are a couple of shots of the lovely place we stayed in Hanover. If I could explain some of the strange expressions my children choose for pictures, I'd undoubtedly sleep better at night. Hopefully they won't cause you to lose any sleep.
Our place was small, and we admired the efficiency of it. The table the kids are sitting at folds partially down and slides into the wall behind them, over two of the stools they're sitting on. The other two matching stools slide into the wall under the television in the living room. The hide-a-bed does exactly what it sounds like a hide-a-bed should do. Everything was very efficient. Our only complaint (other than very long wait times the two times we called down for some needed item to be brought to the room) was that the dishwasher exploded while we were out Saturday morning.
Housekeeping had come in and apparently are instructed to grab any loose utensils they find and throw them in the dishwasher and turn it on. We had been doing all of our dish-washing by hand. Probably a good thing - along with the fortuitousness that we weren't gone all that long. We returned to a pile of suds seeping out of the dishwasher and a growing puddle of water spreading across the floor. Glad we returned when we did! We informed the front desk, who promised to send someone up to look at the dishwasher, but they never showed up. Oh well. No big loss.
For dinner I cooked up a batch of tilapia we had bought at the grocery. Amazing how good fish can taste with just butter, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. We cooked up some couscous for the kids as well. Not a bad ending to a good and productive day!
