Thursday June 3, 2010 - Jackson, Wyoming

Part of the reason most of our days here in Jackson have been relatively light in terms of sight-seeing is because we've been blessed with a great deal of sleep. I think it's due to everyone recovering from colds still, but the kids have been sleeping regularly to almost 8am, which is about an hour later than they normally sleep. Which means that Gena and I get to sleep later as well. Given the option of forcing ourselves awake in order to hit the pavement, or getting some much needed additional sleep, we easily opt for the latter.

In part, we can justify this because just going to the grocery store feels like a tour of sorts. The town is picturesque, and the surrounding mountains and clouds have not lost their initial breath-taking appeal. I've been very honest with Gena that I could easily live here, were the town not quite so small. I've never been quite as captivated with a place (here in the United States, at least) as I have been with this place. Not that we're going to look for a way to move here - like I said, it's way too small for us. We're city-folk, for better or worse. I'd love to come back here in the future, though.

This evening we went to see where Lily lives - as odd as it may sound, adjoining an active gravel yard. She's been there a year, and says she's used to waking to the sound of beeping gravel trucks backing up. The benefits of living where she does are quickly apparent. There are no neighbors visible, and it's a few hundred feet to the Snake River. We walked along the river for a bit, which thrilled the kids because they could throw rocks into it.

We headed back to Lily's place where she grilled up hot dogs and bratwurst. After dinner we followed her to a nearby park where she had planned a volleyball get together with some friends. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate, and the light drizzle apparently discouraged most folks from showing up. A few others did, though, and we played a quick round of horeshoes instead of volleyball. Then it was time to head home and put the kids to bed.
